In Person Workshop Offering: Summer Break, a Retreat for Nurturing Creativity & Connection
Join us at The Sherwood Press, July 25-27th, for a weekend of creative exploration & play.

Jenn and I created the virtual workshop series, Joyful Practice for Dark Times, because we were hungry for a creative community that centers the values of playful expression, deep listening, and authenticity. Over the past five months, as the community has grown, so has our vision for Joyful Practice.
We see the work of Joyful Practice as an antidote to burnout and the ever-expanding demands of productivity culture. This is why we are excited about Summer Break, a face-to-face retreat that offers you the time and space to step outside of day-to-day demands and bask in your own creative process, whatever form that takes.
We'll spend our time together outside, under the shade of giant Douglas fir trees, focusing on generative and restorative creative practices. This experience is not about grit or pushing yourself to produce a specific outcome. It is about stepping outside of day-to-day demands and basking in your own creative process, whatever form that takes.
This retreat is designed to build community and offer the quiet spaciousness necessary for exploration and play. You will create a piece of work that is inspired by the experience of sharing creative space in a specific (and beautiful!) place. And, of course, the piece you create will be unique to who you are and how you encounter this shared time and place.
In this three day retreat, we will:
-play with whatever mediums we feel drawn to (writing, drawing, collage, sound, movement, and any other creative forms and combinations that call to us)
-cross-pollinate and inspire each other
-create a piece of work in a way that feels replenishing rather than depleting.
-spend time in community and alone, moving between the two as we need
-connect to what nourishes us
-use embodied revision techniques
Opportunity for Retreat Participants to Share Work
Jenn and I will hold a community event at Browsers Books on Saturday, August 16, at 4pm for everyone who participated in the retreat to share their creative work. This event is an awesome opportunity to read/perform for friends and family, and celebrate with the other Joyful Practice community members. No one is required to participate or attend, but we think its important to offer participants the opportunity to take what they’ve worked on during the retreat and turn it into something they are excited to share with the community. Getting to read/perform creative work can be intimidating, but its also rewarding to share it with an audience!

I don’t know about you, but I sure could use a few days getting lost in creative play and soaking up time spent with the Joyful Practice community! If you’re interested in joining us for the retreat, check out this link for more information and registration (please reach out to Jenn or me if you have questions.)
